ACC Levies On Overseas Earnings for NZ Tax Residents

ACC (Accident Compensation Corporation) has always been legally obligated to collect levies on overseas business or self employed earnings, however they never did because of a technicality in the way Inland Revenue collects the information.

However from the 2023 financial year onwards Inland Revenue can now provide more detailed overseas income information to ACC which allows them to generate an ACC invoice for the taxpayer.

So please be aware that if you have overseas earnings – you may receive (or have received) an invoice from ACC.

If you have any questions relating to an invoice received – it’s worth giving them a call to make sure they’ve got everything correct depending on your particular situation.
