Xero recently announced that they were making multi-factor authentication (MFA) mandatory for their users sometime between the 18th and 31st of May 2021.
MFA is a system of using two or more sources to verify a user’s identity and it makes systems like Xero significantly more secure from hacking.
While this might seem like an inconvenience, imagine the inconvenience of your financial data getting into the wrong hands…
To support their MFA, Xero have made available an app “Xero Verify” to download to your smartphone, and a desktop web app if you do not have a smart phone.
Here are the steps to set up MFA:
- Have your smartphone on hand and make sure you’ve downloaded Xero Verify from the Apple or Google app store, or your authentication app of choice
- If you don’t have access to a smartphone, you can use Authy, a desktop authenticator
- Log in to Xero from a laptop or desktop computer and follow the instructions on the screen
